Michael’s recent engagements include quantitative analytics, technical accounting, and external audit support while providing innovative, digital solutions that focus on energy transition, carbon neutrality, technology, and data analytics. Whether implementing a detailed hedging strategy or enhancing trading operations, the Commodities Markets team brings specialized, experienced professionals.

Michael’s primary background is in audit services, risk management and technical accounting for commodity trading organizations. He has other experience in middle office/risk management, business process improvement, regulatory, and technology for commodity trading, marketing, and procurement organizations. He regularly serves as a panelist at several firm-sponsored and industry conferences and ASC 815 and 820 and IAS 39 trainings.

Michael’s brings deep experience in the renewable products and environmental credits markets, with significant experience in renewable power, forestry credits, and other environmental credit structures.

He supports clients through a deep understanding of the risk management infrastructure, controls, and analytics that facilitate appropriate risk measurement and monitoring in the renewable, agricultural, energy, metals, mining, and consumer products industries.

Other advisory engagements include detailed contractual compliance review, technical accounting implementation – including hedge accounting, business process change, issue resolution, complex contract accounting, technology implementation, and expert witness testimony for small and medium-sized companies throughout the wholesale and retail commodities industries.

Michael serves as the Audit Engagement Partner for many large commodity trading companies that trade globally in traditional commodities and renewable markets, both liquid and illiquid. These companies file under both IFRS and US GAAP.
